Ecolabel certification: New criteria in cosmetics
The EU Ecolabel is the only official environmental label in the European Union. It is a voluntary label that distinguishes products with a reduced environmental footprint. In France, the competent body for awarding the EU Ecolabel is Afnor.
The period in which the earlier criteria for rinse-off cosmetic products are still accepted is ending. Hereafter, the new Ecolabel criteria, defined by Commission Decision n°2014/893/EU, will need to be respected.
These new criteria are largely based on:
– Toxicity to aquatic organisms: critical dilution volume (CDV)
– The aerobic and anaerobic biodegradability of substances
– The respect of limits for dangerous substances
– Reductions in packaging waste
IRM can help you with the ecotoxicology tests necessary to calculate the CDV and with the constitution of EU Ecolabel dossiers for your cosmetic products.
